English, Maths, 11+, Piano ABRSM beginner to grade 8, Harpsichord, Guitar beginner to grade 8 ABRSM or RGT to grade 8
You can start piano from 5 1/2 years and guitar from 5 1/2 years.
You need a keyboard with full size keys and touch sensitivity, for example Yamaha, p45, p145, 88 keys for beginner to grade 5).
Acoustic piano. These are ideal, however they are more expensive and larger. Most learners have an electronic keyboard at home. Stephen Hough, the concert pianist, has an electronic keyboard for practice!
For young children it is best to buy a nylon strung Classical guitar of the correct size (ask the teacher). These can be strung left or right handed. Classical guitars can be purchased quite cheaply and are easier to play, because they have plastic strings. Steel strung acoustic guitars can be hard for small children to play and are more expensive for a reasonably good instrument.

There are many FREE guitar tuners you can download, to have on your phone or computer. You can also get a free metronome.
I keep names and mobile phone numbers. We use mobile numbers for billing and occasional promotions. On-line students may need to provide an e-mail address for some software. We do not pass on any personal details.
Students pay in 5 week blocks, online or cash. We no longer accept cheques.
We offer a free trial for guitar and piano, on line or face to face in Colchester.
For Maths, English and 11+ we send out some assessment work which we will mark before your first lesson.
We also do ABRSM music theory to grade 8, on line or face to face in Colchester.

As well as teaching Guitar, Piano, Maths and English, we also offer Irish tenor banjo, Ukelele and Mandolin. We are also prepared to come in to local schools in Colchester to demo and teach basic introduction to Indian classical music, using the Sitar.
I take music lessons in Colchester, but 6 days a month, I am in my studio in Romford Essex, which has large rehearsal rooms and a recording studio. Students will quite often see rock bands coming in for band practise; they normally get a chance to have a look which is very inspiring for the young musician.
